North Leitrim Tour
This morning we take the Arigna scenic derive to visit the Arigna Mining Experience which overlooks Lough Allen mentioned in the song ‘Lovely Leitrim’.
Here we will get an insight into the life working in the mines from the 1700s to its closure in 1990. We then travel along a route of breathtaking scenery to the north of the county to Glenfarne to visit The Rainbow Ballroom of Romance, the only original Ballrom of Romance remaining in Ireland.
Here we have time to meet with the local community over a light lunch. Following lunch we visit the homestead of one of Leitrim’s most famous sons Sean MacDiarmada, a key figure of the 1916 rising and a signatory of the Proclamatiom of Irish Independence which is located in the border town of Kiltyclogher.
Here at the homestead, which is typical Irish cottage, we will hear many of the stories associated with Leitrim’s famous son. On our return journey we will stop at Wrynn’s Bar in Ballinaglera for a an Irish Coffee.
This evening we enjoy an evening of Traditional music, song and dance at The Dock Arts Centre
