In the footsteps of Ireland’s famous Poet WB Yeats
Today we start our tour travelling north along the shores of Lough Allen to the town of Dromahair for a visit to Parkes Castle, a restored 17th century plantation castle.
This will be followed by a cruise on Lough Gill on the motor launch Rose of Innisfree with a light lunch on board. Here you will see the Lake Isle of Innisfree, the island that inspired WB Yeats to write one of Ireland’s most popular poems. After our boat trip we will be met by our guide and Yeats expert, who will escort us to one of the most scenic and enchanting waterfalls in Ireland - ‘Glencar’ which also features in the poetry of William Butler Yeats. Afterwards he will take us on an exploration of a number of sites associated with the famous poet.
We end our day with dinner and an evening of poetry in a private home overlooking Lough Gill…’land of hearts desire’.
